Requiem for a Dream's tragic ending explained (in under 60 seconds!)

As a kid Harry’s arm always freaked me out

Everything you're passionate about, everyone you've ever loved or will love, everything you own, your house, your car, your job, your hopes, ambitions, desires, your humanity.. EVERYTHING can fit neatly and snug into a syringe with plenty of room to spare.. You'll see a mushroom cloud of blood symbolic of the nuke you've just dropped on your life, before it all disappears into the abyss beneath your skin.

If you live long enough, one day the high will be gone and the abyss is all that remains. You'll pound your fist on the table and make pact after pact with yourself to kick once and for all... only after you get "well" one more time of course.

Saw yesterday and never again, this movie is horrifying

Watched this movie a couple days ago and it hit me hard, so sad, anyone going through something like drug addiction need to watch this movie😢

An eye opener , that an girl interrupted. Gave me a new whole meaning to life . Suffering from mental disorders and breaking bad habits. Let me tell this movie crushed me and traumatized me to a point I was sad and numb .

ASS TO ASS 😄

I dated someone who was 100% dependent on alcohol and Adderall. Over the years, I watched how it completely changed him as a person. Was became very irritable. Easily angry. To the point where paranoia took over him. He suspected every little thing i do. I go to store? I'm cheating. I spend an hour at gym? I'm cheating. I don't text him back within 15 minutes? I'm cheating....

It was very sad to watch.... i watched someone self destruct in front of my
Eyes, but wouldn't take any of my advice or help....

really disturbing movie but amazing

One of the most disturbing movies I’ve ever seen!

I haven't even watched this film and I already know it's scarier than any horror flick ever made

This traumatized me as a teen and worked as a vaccine from addictions in my future

This was about the dangers of drugs & addiction. 4 people who wish for good things and have big dreams all have their dreams shattered from all of them going down the dark path and their lives spiraling out of control.

One of the most overrated film of all time.

That’s addiction, it takes away everything you care about eventually.

What is there to explain?

This movie is classified as a horror movie for good reason. It’s not horror in the sense of ghosts and demons, it’s horror in the sense that this is so many people’s reality, and watching what happened to Sara really shows that this can happen to anybody. It’s a tough watch, but it’s worth it

For anyone reading this, I really appreciate this ending bc I have family members in addiction. It’s true. When you’re dying your kids will be angry at you, may not even stop by. People will talk about good memories and laugh but also talk about how badly you treated those you loved and how much you upset them. You’ll die young, dreams unfinished. If you’re reading this and you’re stuck, today is the day to change, and I know you can.

*Four tragic endings.

I didn't find the ending as tragic as it could have been. A large portion of recovered alcoholics/addicts get clean while locked up - so three out of the four main characters have a shot at a new life. Marion, on the other hand, is still finding a way to "make it work" for her, and I fear she'll be the one to die a terrible death.

Maybe I'm just too much an optimist, but I'd wager at least one of the incarcerated people will get the miracle.

The most tragic of them all is the mothers ending, and we see that they all end up in a fetal position which starts in the womb. The drugs are bad, but there is an undertone of the how important taking care of your mother is, because if you neglect the one who gave you life, in the end you will just want your Mommy but it will be too late. She could be long gone....

Even just watching the 30 seconds upsets me

Damn, this film!

Terrible movie. Trainspotting on the other hand actually made sense...it showed the joy you get from taking drugs but then shows you that joy is a tiny blip in a giant ocean of loneliness and despair.

Out of all of them, Sarah got it the worst. She never achieved her dream, but lived in a delusion of it. Sometimes, the worst thing isn’t losing your dream it’s believing you achieved it, when you’ve actually lost yourself completely. Well, the others have to confront reality for what it is Sarah is lost in the delusion running to it than away. And what makes it all worse was how innocent her dream was of just to be loved and her son to be proud of her. She’s in a prison and it’s the worst kind. The one where you don’t even know you’re in it.

That, was pretty good, my respect for Jared Leto just went up.
