The Type 93 was a hazard for the user as well as the target in combat. IJN ships carrying them were disabled when they detonated aboard during combat. IJN destroyers and cruisers under air attack had to decide whether or not to jettison torpedoes to prevent them from being detonated during the attack.

Hey also had a distinct disadvantage of continuing on past you intended target and subsequently hitting your side own ships and sinking them. I'm lookin at you Mogami. Ultimate lesson of be careful of what you ask for, you might just get it

What is the tactical point of a torpedo that can be used at such long ranges when ships can only be seen at much shorter distances.

It also had a large "wander" factor so that long range was useless unless you fired a LOT of them.

Damn, if the Kreigsmarine got this tech earlier.. bet we would hear much2 more crazy GUNTHER stories .

and that SHRIMP Boat captain, whom went on to Lead a Destroyer/ Convoy would hv a harder time.

Japanese developed this torpedo after Britain and maybe the US stopped working on the type . They stopped the oxygen starting explosions by increasing the radius of the bends in the oxygen tubing. Not sure how this worked only that it did. Regards

On Imperial Japanese Navy surface ships the type 93 was held in launchers on deck. When used in combat it was devastating to the enemy. Plus they were a devastating risk to its own ship when when that ship was hit. When type 93 torpedoes aboard were hit they detonated. Destroying the IJN ship carrying them. Its biggest advantage is the US Navy didn’t know of there existence and the type 93’s destructive capability. Halfway through the Solomons campaign the US Navy first salvaged and examined a type 93. After that US navy tactics were developed to minimize the risks and to exploit the type 93’s ability to destroy the ships carrying them.

When you play World of Warships, japanese ships have very long range torpedos but hopeless guns. You launch your torpedoes and turn away to hide.

So much for historical or factual intelligence coming from Wargaming logic is asz backwards. If they was anywhere half accurate then IJN torps would fly over 80 knots the entire map, cannot be spotted , and would auto ammo rack any ship instantly. Long lance is king

But, that fish cannot be guided, even long range and also like you say, it's a risky weapon, if not properly handled, it ends up harming your own ship more than the enemy does.
