Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and antral follicle count (AFC) are all markers used to predict ovarian reserve. Here's some information about how they interact:
AMH and AFC
AMH levels are stable throughout the menstrual cycle and are strongly positively correlated with AFC. AMH is considered a more reliable predictor of ovarian reserve than FSH because of its stability.
FSH and AFC
FSH is a hormone that stimulates the ovaries to release eggs. AFC is a measurement of the number of resting follicles in the ovaries. AFC can vary from month to month, so fertility specialists often consider it alongside AMH levels to get a more complete picture of ovarian reserve.
FSH and ovarian reserve
FSH testing is less valuable than AMH and AFC for predicting ovarian response. However, it can be useful for evaluating perimenopausal status, hypergonadotropic and hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, and central precocious puberty.
