This Is Why I Left The Jehovah Witness Religion: The Governing Body Woke Me Up

Growing up in the organization and reading ALL of the publications as a young person, I began to examine the use of “type” and “antitype” as applied from the text I began to pay attention to the inconsistencies of application (eg 1919, etc). They would apply the text to the anointed remnant in one verse and then to apostate Christendom in the same context.

I began to study hermeneutics (principles of interpretation) and studied my way out of the organization. I latter studied the original languages (Hebrew and Greek) and saw the misapplication of the Scriptures.

I was there for 1975 and so the effects of what had been predicted to take place in “weeks” and “months”. I continue to believe in God and the inspiration of the Bible. My faith in this regard has never wavered.

People must look away from the organization and trust in God and Christ instead.

I was an elder when this generation teaching came out.
Honestly I couldn't explain it and felf funny telling the friends to just trust the governing body.
It was some made up BS.

I left in 2014. Born into a divided family where my mom and sisters were JW and my dad was an “opposer”. I was a good little JW except for my slow progress in the religion which was always spoken away as due to my father imposing his will on me. My dissonance was so strong I started smoking weed in HS as an escape but still believed. I knew I’d have to pick a side eventually. Summer 2013 before my senior year of HS I stumbled upon r/exjw and I was terrified but I knew if this was the Truth there could be nothing to hide. I stopped believing that night and stayed up all night reading the sub. Reading people complain about field service and meetings made me feel like I was finally not alone. Remained 6 months PIMO and asked my dad to help me escape. By Jan 2014 I was out and that Summer I moved into a dorm at college with my Dad’s support and never looked back.

I was lucky to have my father, lucky I never got baptized (even my PIMI mom has said so), and lucky I left when I did. I was so emotionally stunted when I got to college it’s been more than 10 years and I still feel like I’m playing catch up. Once I got to college I stopped paying attention to the exjw world and tried to move on but in the last few weeks I’ve been going down the rabbit hole again. I think at the time I expected leaving to be my happily ever after but I never realized the wounds I’ve been caring with me and possibly inflicting on others. I’m still trying to heal from the experience which was most of my formative years and come to find out the Org is in shambles.

Seeing these videos of just how far they’ve gotten from even when I was growing up is mind blowing. Cart witnessing? Beards? No more reporting hours?? Greeting DFed ones? They’ve lost all sense of coherence and identity. The saddest part is thinking about my siblings and the internal struggle it must take to hold onto this faith while time marches on.

The tight clothing thing from the GB is such self admission of their own insecurities. They’re all overweight old men that don’t want to be shown up by physically fit younger men.

Cults keep you so busy and exhausted so you are to tired to think even if you have time to, which you don't. So i'd bet the pandemic is going to show the greatest drop in jw numbers they ever had. it might even eclipse the post-1975 losses.

I agree that jw is a bunch of nonsense. However it breaks my heart to see former jw turn atheist. God is real, & it's understandable to lean atheist when leaving jw. But don't let it discourage you from God.

As far as tight clothes go, black bodies are heavily policed in almost any and every space regardless of size. I’m a full figured bw and let me just say there was always a complaint about my attire whether I wore tight/loose clothes or was fully covered or not. I dress mostly conservative at that but I am very curvaceous. Inherently, that religion especially, has a lot of racist undertones. Glad I left at 20. Thankfully my husband helped me get out of that cult. My mother, sister and brother are still in it. My brother wants to leave but is scared to be cut off from my mother. This religion has literally brainwashed her, making her devote 100% of herself to it. It’s disturbing how she’d give her last little bit of money to that place and not eat at times

I just had to comment that the reason that one can’t ever change the minds of certain persons, or even get them to consider the evidence to support differing beliefs is based purely upon—EGO!

Never been a JW, but have studied the new book with them... not the Bible :D Have decided to cut the cult off, there is to many reasons to believe this is not the truth. That UN thing was an eye-opener. Greetings from Sweden!

I did leave in the 2014-2016 period. For me it started going downhill when they made the Watchtower so simple. I know the reasons they gave but it felt insulting to the intelligence of people. After watching your videos show how much they have leaned into JW Broadcasting I wouldn’t have lasted long anyway - there is no way I could endure the 1-2 punch of dumbed down literature and condescending, boring videos.

When I left an elder 'popped round' to talk me out of it BUT I said 'IF JEHOVAH DIDNT WANT ME TO LEAVE I WOULDNT BE' = the elder shut up & left! reverse psychology!
