For the lovely folks that say this is possible with Trackspacer and/or Fabfilter Pro-Q3: Yes, it kind of is, but you will need to add multiple instances of the plugins to have separate sidechain INPUTS like I do here on the video. Don't confuse sidechain sources with sidechain inputs they are a very, very different thing :)
ОтветитьThe problem with this track is the piano player. An experienced piano player accompanying a female singer would know what notes NOT to play, and he surely would not play all those floating high notes while the singer is singing. This is actually a quite common problem with players today: they are used to play alone in front of a computer, so they don't develop experience of playing together with other people, especially with singers.
ОтветитьFrequency2 is great.I used it as well as the free TDR Nova plugin for tricks like this.
ОтветитьHi Dom, I really love this Rhodes (or Wurli?) and really would appreciate if you'd tell us what instrument it is! The Autopan is so cool as well! I tried all my plugins and instruments (Reface CP, Roland RD-88, Vibrant etc.) but still can't get there!!
ОтветитьMagic Advice❤❤ Thanks @DomSigalas
ОтветитьFantastic as usual 😊
ОтветитьExcellent! Thank you! !
ОтветитьWow, thank you so much for this! I'm about to upgrade to Cubase 13 and tips like this are gold. Do you ever mix any hard rock with heavy guitars? Not metal, but just good hard rock music? I would love to see how you approach loud rock guitars and aggressive vocals in a mix.
ОтветитьDom, fantastic information! I appreciate your content so much. I am somewhat new in CuBase, using Pro13. When you use Frequency-2 on a mono channel it does not show the mid/side option that is in the video, is that correct? Thx!! :)
ОтветитьThanks Sigalas sir
Ответитьthis tutorial changed my mix FOREVER!! You are probably the best music production teacher nowadays. Thank you!
ОтветитьThis is insane! Thank You for the gold mine! <3 <3 <3
ОтветитьAttenuated: The signal is reduced
Ответитьi like and love your teaching so much
ОтветитьDom is a living legend! One of the nicest guys too. Keep it up Dom!
ОтветитьI have a question Dom. Steely Dan albums are some of the most crystal clear mixes I have ever heard, every instrument has their space and their frequency, nothing gets in the way of anything else, it's a master class in mix engineering. My question is, how did they do that? Did they have sidechain compression back then the way we do here?
ОтветитьMay i know the vocal effects (delay and reverb) that you have used for this?
ОтветитьJust watching again, OMG the vocals ❤
ОтветитьNow I have two big reasons to switch to the Cubase from Logic Pro.
1- Iconica Sketch (free!)
2- Frequency2 (for the multiple sidechains)
Wow Frequency 2 is a game changer 😮 thank you dom!
ОтветитьGreat mix
Thank you!
And boom a clear mix is there thankyou bro 🎸
ОтветитьGolden trick, thx
ОтветитьThank you so much!!! Perfect video!!! Is there a way to remaster older vinyls? Some here in Greece in Greece I know, who make remasters from vinyls never been released on compact disc, they copy characteristics of a lofi or bassy eq and they use this to remaster tracks from vinyls. And of course they clear the vinyl before transfer, but the bassy or eq with no higher frequencies they use to "hide" in some way the imperfections of vinyl. They use izotope for this. In my opinion is a bad thing to use lofi eq for commercial old tracks but also all songs they don't have the same template, each song is a different production and need to have high end.
But the baddest thing is that then they increase the gain around +3 or+6db. And they listen so grunged and distorted in awful way.
You are the Best👍👍👍👍👍
ОтветитьI watch this Video now the second time and i am very much impressed again what i can learn every time from you, you are a genius !
Thank you so much.
Just the last 3 weeks i have hear all the early Recordings from Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Elvis, The Platters, from 1945-1950 where was it going from RCA44 Mic to AKG C12 and later to Neuman U47. I like so much the Recordings from this Time because the Stringsorchestra Sound in this Time and Songs. I have find out they had no EQs in this time and recorded all Singers and All Instruments just at the same time paying in the same Room together and the Sound is amazing just because the good Musicians, good Mics and because the right placement of the Mics.
And now i ask me why this old Recordings not sound moody or cluttered without EQ tricks.
I also have found out, how more Instrument Tracks play at the same time, the more far away it sounds and if are only 3 Instruments, they sound more like they would be here in the room (pop out of the Speakers 3Dimensional)
And i think your EQ sidechain trick helps to get this clear mix also with more Instruments.
At the other hand i am Orchestra Violinist and Filmmusiccomposer and in a Filmorchestra we paint Orchestral Sounds with Instrument-Combinations and this
EQ Sidchain Trick would ruine the Orchestral Colores and Instrument-Mixtures.
I think this are diffrent approaches in the Orchestra Recording and back in the 1950, than today in Singer Recordings.
Thankyou for this trick I'll learn to use it.
ОтветитьDom, would you do this for all frequency-competing arrangements—like the mids on electric guitar and vocals in, say, a skate punk track?
ОтветитьI think this should be really useful for rock with intense electric guitar, since the guitars regularly compete with vocals
ОтветитьSo cool. Great video, Dom.
ОтветитьDom you have the best music. I love all the info but I will listen again to reenforce the tips and enjoy the music again,
ОтветитьYou can do this in absolutely any DAW.
ОтветитьI'm pretty sure any decent DAW enables frequency ducking using side chains and active EQ. Been doing in Studio One for years.
Ответитьgreat lesson! thank you!
ОтветитьBeautiful video!🤗👍
ОтветитьYour whole channel is one big advertisement for Cubase
ОтветитьOne of the reasons I’ve returned to Cubase is for features like this; most other DAWs are sadly lacking when compared to Cubase, which I feel is one of the most complete and feature packed DAWs out there.
ОтветитьThats amazing man, I have to investigate my cubase 1's more.. Thank You
Ответитьall i need is help to come up
ОтветитьOoooo. This is nice! ❤
ОтветитьMaybe it's just my headphones but I just can't hear the difference. :(
ОтветитьWhich song is it? It's cool. Thanks so much for the tips!
ОтветитьHow does this work if the keys were recorded in Mono (live performance, not enough channels etc . . ) ? If the track is mono ... in "frequency" the software doesn't offer the M/S. Is there a way to do this in mono? Let's say I'm trying to get some of the mid frequency to stop clashing with the vocal, 2 guitars, and keys and each track is mono.
ОтветитьDom, that's astonishing! That's great! And I really appreciate the way you explained it. I applied it to my mix and now it's way better!
Can't believe it! You're really the best man!
Great :)
ОтветитьIs this exclusive to Pro? Cus I can't seem to find Frequencies in Artist
ОтветитьI always had a problem understanding how the piano would sound so heavy and bassy on the intro in some songs but immediately the the bass and kick comes in it just balance without clashing 😮 so this is the trick! Thank you sir. In a case like this I would use two piano tracks one with low end and mid on intro and the other with less low and mid on the chorus😂
ОтветитьThat’s a great trick! Will for sure use this in future projects
ОтветитьIf anyone knows how to do this on Reaper, I would appreciate. Thanks
Ответить
