10 years in Delhi and NCR (National Capital Region).
This rule comes from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and was reinforced by the Supreme Court of India due to concerns over air pollution.

15 years in most other parts of India, depending on state-specific regulations and pollution control measures.


After the prescribed lifespan:

The vehicle must be de-registered, and in many cases, cannot be legally used on public roads.

Exceptions may apply for commercial vehicles, vintage vehicles, or special use cases, subject to re-certification or fitness tests.
