You could make them sound very close by putting a thin blanket over the guitar speakers when playing the Gibson or by turning up the presence when playing the Epiphone. The Gibson's usually sound a little brighter, If it is worth 4 times as much money to have a 10% brighter sounding guitar they you should buy the Gibson without hesitation.

Gibson was a little more articulate to my ears. If you put those Gibson pickups in the Epiphone, you couldn't tell the difference.

It called capitalism. You don't necessarily sell stuff by what it costs. Instead you sell it by how much people are willing to pay for it.

Gibson is better than Epiphone. That is a fact. But the difference in the price has more to do with the desire of people to have a guitar with "Gibson" on the headstock.

Just like an Apple computer is not so much better than a ASUS, for instance. But Apple is a powerfull brand. It shows status, make you feel special.

Anyway, capitalism kids. That is it.

The truth is they sound a bit similar, but different price, For me I go with Epiphone, but if youre rich go with Gibson its worth it..

Did you properly setup and tune the guitars before this test? Were any settings on the guitar(s) different? Without that knowledge, the comparisons are worthless.

they both sound good , but because Gibson costs alot ,i believe it has to do that Americans need money to live for their hard labor making the guitars. unlike in china where Epiphones are made , worker are paid cheaper there

All you need to do is change the pickups in an Epiphone LP and you will nail the Gibson LP tone..Epiphone pickups are a little hotter , fatter and can comes across a bit muddy sounding.. tweaking your amp can get you a little more clarity though and works well...Bang for buck the Epiphone is actually a better guitar overall ! I know this for fact because i have both

the newer Epiphones are fucking outstanding, esp the les paul custom pro! for the money they cant be beat. Plus they feel amazing when u play them. Sure id love a gibby, but id rather keep the 4 plus gs in my pocket! lol

Thanks for the fair comparison. On clean, the Epiphone sounds thinner, has less depth, and overall less sustain. It sounds more dry. With gain on, the differences are not as obvious. But listening carefully, one can notice that the Epiphone sound is more muddy, lacks clarity, which in the contrary is maintained with the Gibson.

First review I've seen take both seriously and stay pretty neutral. The Gibson is obviously superior overall, but for a guy coming back to guitar after about ten years, I was excited to order the epi and sick of people hating on it. Great side by side comparison. I like you even the riff was standardized. You rock!

Sound is definitely different, Gibson sounds better. Epiphone is a good enough guitar if money is tight. If money is no object then go for the Gibson.

all you might need to do is plug some duncans in the epi and bob's yer auntie? could be other things too though, maybe the nut or tuners. i CAN hear a difference, only on the crunchier channel though, but it's probably the pickups. i put a jb in my strat, sounds nastaay, not too much sustain, but a bit more of a bark on it now.

I own a Gibson and epiphone les Paul studio, the epiphone is lovely to play and not too far from the Gibson, and sounds ok, but the Gibson just sings, much better sustain, much nicer sounding, and you can feel the body ringing out. Better quality woods and hardware compared to the epiphone, but the epiphone is still an awesome guitar, new pickups may close the gap a bit more. Toss up between one new Gibson at £1300 or five new epiphones though, and the epiphones will win

I have LP Standard in both brands. Both have the same Grover tuners, DiMarzzio (bad spelling) pick ups, etc. (Electronically identical guitars). Both play outstanding, sound great. Differences? Sure, but very subtle...except for price. The Gibson I acquired many years ago, the Epi I have had for about 4 years. The Gibson never leaves the house, the Epi goes everywhere. Conclusion..what ever your personal preference is, but it, own it, play it. Both are fine guitars.

Always the same: in 'freak environment' you will find the Gibson sligtly beter, the average stage crowd won't notice.
It's your choice if it's worth the investment. For me, a decent Epi with Seymour Duncans does the job...
