Over reved the manual big time. You will lose so much time
ОтветитьPower shift and launch at 3k smh…
Ответитьgearbox ratio are same?
ОтветитьLooks like the manual was the more emotional ride.
ОтветитьGod why does the UK have to be wierd and use both metric and imperial
ОтветитьBest part is you had so much fun you wanted to keep testing
ОтветитьManuals are and always will be a waste of time. You’ll never shift faster than a computer can, and that “more fun” horseshit is subjective. Automatic ftw!
Ответитьmanual transmission is not your thing lol. you ruin the car
ОтветитьThe problem with comparing manuals and autos is that autos is almost perfect, manuals take more time than a day to drive as fast as it could go. Without changing anything when I first got my infiniti I starting with 7ish 0-60 and now can go mid 5s from just knowing the car better
ОтветитьWhat about the automatic in E36? Is it DCT as well?
ОтветитьCar guys love manual because of their SO CALLED SKILLS. But the better driver with a better shifting car will always beat an equally good driver with an outdated manual gearbox.
ОтветитьI’ve driven my sons BMW with this auto ,
It’s a fantastic gearbox , fast , smooth, effortless ,
But after a while I miss the manual if that makes sense .
Manual use to be faster before but times are changing ☠️ newer technology will be faster. Side note tho, manuals are still fun
ОтветитьYou should have put an M240i, with a ZF8HP in it, in this race, I think you would have been surprised.
ОтветитьDoesn't really matter. So many Porsches are passed by shitboxes at Nurburgring.
ОтветитьBack in the 70's and 80's and some of the 90's manuals were faster because the automatics were slow at shifting. AND manuals got better gas mileage.
Today Automatics are MUCH faster at shifting and get better gas mileage.
An automatic will always be faster do to a torque multiplyer. It is only a 1 to 2 second advantage but in a short run that is all you will need.
ОтветитьThe automatic seats weigh more because when speeding and stop for an emergency then your seat must be solid to resist the crash.
Practically automatic Must be faster.
Real men use 3 pedals
ОтветитьThe biggest factor affecting 0-60 times is how much you care about the car.
ОтветитьHow about testing tire diameter vs braking and acceleration? Supposedly, tire width doesn't really matter as the contact patch area doesn't change.
ОтветитьI think it depends, if you are racing in a straight line, a automatic would win, but if you are racing on a race track with lots of turns, a skilled manual driver would have the advantage, they can heel and toe downshift just before a turn and full throttle out of the turn.
ОтветитьI know we're trying to keep everything as neutral / equal as possible, buuuuut.....
Maybe upgrade to a sequential shifter or other super short shifter options? And change out the transmission mounts.
what actually matters here is the fun factor , having driven both trans, the manual car is way more engaging , its never going to beat a computer in 0 -100k times, but who cares , its so much more fun and involving than the point and shoot in all "auto" cars
Ответить"Manual gear boxes are slower than automatics." Woah woah woah. Manuals are slower than DCT's. I don't think that's a debate, but DCT's are not "automatics." Manuals with a skilled driver will probably still beat most automatics. Automatics lose too much power through the torque converter. DCT's don't have torque converters.
ОтветитьGreat video! ive been in two minds on what to get, having seen the manual is nearly a full second slower than the dct i think thats pushed me towards the dct, plus it's alot more reliable. I had a zf8 auto m140 before so the dct will feel rapid compared
Ответить5 to 60 mph from idle is the best test.
ОтветитьYeah it is really hard for manual to beat auto in this case, but while in the corner manual is better
ОтветитьMissing leg days?
ОтветитьI think transmission weight difference would be more
ОтветитьHe kissed his teeth white men dont usually do that lol
ОтветитьWhat's really interesting is to compare this thoroughbred with my bus. 535d touring. no launch control. just plant it, and the smooth power delivery doesn't overwhelm the modest 225 tyres, 0-60 in 5.3. doesn't make much difference doing it in the wet, so with no skill on my part, in the wet a manual m2 driver would have to be spot on, or I may have them. i didn't realise the weights were so close m2 comp = 1650kg v 5 series estate = 1950kg, off the line does the weight aid traction more than it hinders acceleration?
ОтветитьGood stuff, first time seeing one of your vids.
Just want to say I appreciate you not using jump cuts in your content.
Test the same 2 cars but on a road course
ОтветитьThank you.
ОтветитьCouldnt you have just went 0-100 in 2nd gear? Looks like you changed twice
ОтветитьWhy hasn't anyone done a review of identical cars auto vs manual of lap times to see the difference 🤔
Ответитьyou should turn off A/C to have a better performance
ОтветитьThe only way a manual will beat a DCT is when the tires are worn but in the same scenerio and condition test no human can beat a DCT. It's like pulling a lever vs pushing a button which is faster?
ОтветитьBe good to see them doing rolls as well, we know generally the autos re quicker from launch, at least consistently, agree a bit boring though if you're a manual guy, great test
ОтветитьDriving a car with an automatic transmission does not give me any pleasure or excitement. Especially some kind of drag race with such a gearbox, it's like buying a robot and letting it win something instead of me. I don't understand what that proves. Who has more money to buy a better toy, maybe ? (Google translate)
ОтветитьI see you're an amateur. What's with getting your rpm up before letting go off your clutch
ОтветитьGreat vid,manual gang .
ОтветитьThe exhaust cans are horrid on those cars.
ОтветитьYou "granny shifting" 😅😅😅
But in a race course the manual would smoke the dtc or whatever that was. Because you can clutch through corners.
What r u doing bro
ОтветитьNo matter what anyone says or do, it's proven sequential gearboxes, any type, single clutch, double-clutch and modern torque converters like the ones from ZF are faster than any human can ever be from the past 20 years at least.
This is simple to understand for those who check acceleration time sheets, for those who actually have experience with both. ....and only those who have only experience with manuals may believe otherwise. And I explain why:
When we shift manually, the gear becomes ready the moment we manually engage the gear and release the clutch. Seems instantaneously, because it happens at the moment we complete our motions. In sequential gearboxes, we (if used manually) complete our motion and wait for the system to operate.
...but the manual is never faster, because we always take more time pressing the clutch switching the knob and releasing the clutch than the same operation done by the robot. Nowadays sequential gearboxes shift in the 0.01s of a second. Manual operation take between 0.5 and 1 sec with good gearboxes and skilled drivers and that's only between gears that don't involve lateral movement, for the others it takes between 1 and 2 secs.
This is no contest for more than 20 years.
You never tested the DCT with traction control off...
ОтветитьOutside of the launch, you may have made some time up by power shifting. Even speed shifting. But I know you weren’t because you had video of the pedals. And I believe you could have slammed between gears slightly quicker as well. You were concerned about the clutch, so maybe that is why you didn’t do any of that.
