If any supervolcano erupts, it would change the world forever 🤦‍♂️

Our planet responds to magnetic fields and movement of blocks of material. It shows up in the motions of satellites and perhaps earthquakes.

Oh dear. Not good science folks. The caldera is probably not explosive, and the magnetic field does not effect volcanism.

Have you ever considered why the ends of an electric battery are labelled plus and minus? In the 19th century it was assumed that electricity flowed from the positive to the negative. Only In the early 20th century was it discovered that the particles, electrons, actually have negative charges. So the particles actually move FROM the negative pole to the positive pole. You are reading something into diagram that the author DID NOT INTEND. Magnetic fields do not have a direction. You are promoting gibberish by implying that ANYTHING is going into the Earth at that point. Every particle in the Solar wind has both a North and a South Pole because of the quantum property called spin. Again that is just what the property is called. The particles are not actually spinning any more than Quarks actually have colours. The particles orient themselves as they flow along the "lines" of the magneric field (which are not lines, simply a direction). They orient themselves at both the North and South Poles for the exact same reason that the needle of a compass aligns itself. The needle has a net quantum "spin" property even though clearly the needle is not spinning.

DO NOT READ ANYTHING INTO HIGH SCHOOL TEXTBOOK DIAGRAMS.

Note that at an average speed of just 10km per year, never mind the current 40km per year in the 1.1 MILLION years since the alleged last super eruption the North Magnetic Pole has moved over 10 MILLION km, or 250 complete circuits of the Earth.

Stop this garbage until you have actually completed at least an undergraduate degree in science!

My question is this, if it ejected THAT much material, where’s the island? Where the land mass? Or was the initial eruption so violent that it literally ejected everything at such velocity that it was too spread out.

Thanks Stefan, it is nice to find a geophys site that actually talks about geophys and not sociological impacts of tectonic events or some pseudoscience nonsense. It is interesting to hear you suggest there could be a link to solar activity and the electrical/magnetci activity of the planet. I have often wondered whether the Moon plays a larger part in tectonic activity than we ordinarilly recognise - I have considered figuring out how to create a model of the Earth-Moon system as a model and then seeing how their motion relates to major tectonic events, especially large quakes - the gravity of the Moon is no insignificant - but linking this to tectonic activity may be quite difficult, and beyond the ability of my laptop to model.

The posibility that the movement of the magnetci field toward the Gakkel ridge could be a potential portent of something interesting, but potentially catastrophic is extremely interesting, it seriously needs funding for research to rule it in or out - either way we learn a lot.

Every second billions of things change the world forever. These have become trite meaningless, over-repeated phrases. Please be original & meaningful. It's as though you all hire the same guy to try to catch our attention. Respectfully.

What if the Gakkel Supervolcano was the location of the explosive destruction & sinking of Atlantis? Heard it was strong enough to wipe out the continent and Split the Earth. Could it be what flipped the Earth's Poles in very Ancient times??🤔

Dude ... I have been trying to tell folks that for ages that the "north "pole is actualy a South by magnteic classification stuff but its in our northern hem 🤷🫨so we just call it north casue humans are not that bright😂😂.

U get that ...wtf ...are u talking about look alot .😂
tiny minds can not comprehend such complexity I suppose . And when u know learn things like this ..and universes stuff u remebering ..just how tiny we humans realy realy are ..and every day something doesnt end us 🤟☠️is a good day no matter how shit u persevere it may have been we are an utter fluke
i. The grand maths of it all shows that how fluke and against millions of other possible things .life developed to us now to be able to ask these questions so live 🤷🤣 ✌️😎

I love your content, and I believe you know you are on the cusp of breakthrough geoscience on the heels of Sagnotti, Cooper, Valet, Cataldi, etc. regarding correlation between geomagnetic activity, earthquakes and volcanism. Question regarding the direction of energy funneled down North Pole (Magnetic south pole) cusp into Gakkel caldera, versus a (hypothetical) reversal of geomagnetic poles in the same area (Gakkel caldera) where energy is being funneled OUT the now south pole (Magnetic north pole), which would be out of the Gakkel caldera. Would the energy going into the Gakkel caldera theoretically load tulluric currents at or near the mantle chamber, dissolving CO2, or would the effect be more pronounced if the energy was exiting the caldera, as it would be the theoretical south pole? I hope you can understand what I am trying to ask.
