I am actually shocked at the number of people who think letting Detlaff go is a “good” choice. Regis had seen Detlaff be incredibly selfless but imo Detlaff showed his true colors by ordering the wholesale Slaughter of the men, women and CHILDREN of Beuclair. In addition to that, he attempts to kill Syanna without even hearing her side of the story (not that she had any justification for her actions but still) then if she has the ribbon, he attacks both Geralt AND Regis… I don’t know about you but I wouldn’t consider one of my closest friends riding off into the sunset (or moonlight?) with a mass murdering psychopath a happy ending. Yes Regis owed him for regenerating him but I’m pretty sure if Hitler did you a favor you wouldn’t think “yeah he did some bad things but he’s actually a really swell guy once you get to know him!” And for what? He got used by a woman? Join the club! “Your honor my client may have committed genocide but his girlfriend really hurt his feels, so obviously you should drop the charges!” What happens next time he gets his feelings hurt? Who’s to say he won’t kill Regis? Also remember that Geralt doesn’t force Regis to kill Detlaff, Regis makes that choice, he could have just broke him down to regenerate him later but he realized the danger he posed, and even though the other vampire’s would hate him for it “out of sight out of mind” was a small price to pay for preventing the slaughter of more innocents.

The Only kind of Realistic Fictional Character capable of taking out a Higher Vampire is a Spartan-II, or an Armored Spartan of other types. Spartan-IIs are nearly as fast as Higher Vampires, but are just as Strong, and can match them in reflexes. In Mjolnir, one would be capable of handling them with minimal difficulty, with the Master Chief, Noble 6, and the Known Blue Team members being able to Kill the Unseen Elder with a moderate difficulty. It must be said that Kelly-087 would likely have little difficulty due to her being Significantly Faster than even the other Spartans, being the Fastest human since the Human-Forerunner War. Spartan-II Eyesight is also Better than a Witcher's, even Geralt with Potions, as they can see clearly without aid in nearly Complete Darkness, and can see Active Camoflage without issue in almost every scenario, something that normal humans cannot do without aid.

I think sorcerers are really the only beings that can surpass the strength of elder vampires, but only very few of them can reach that level, for example the sorcerer Vilgefortz was physically capable of beating a Witcher as skilled as Geralt and on top of that he had a mastery of magic to the point he could “kill” a higher vampire for decades

What if you take the teeth’s or glands of a higher vampire? Wouldn’t that kill another one?
Like if Regis gave one of his teeth’s mixed with saliva/glands to Geralt and used it as a weapon?

not wanna be that guy, but Vilgefortz killed Regis pretty solidly. Yeah for the games somehow somewhere detlaff managed to dig through the leveled castle stygga and managed to find the block of solid volcanoglass in which regis was molten into atoms and somehow managed to dig out singular atoms and regenerate them, but that is not canon and after Geralts revival before game 1 the second biggest deviation from the books.

Mages have abilitys to quasi kill vampires (and in the bookverse there is absolutly no proof they cant be destroyed- all we know is that Regis has not encountered anyone capable of desintegrating him prior to vilgefortz. That probably is also the reason why vampires in the books dont just try to take over the world. If there was no danger to them they could do as they please.

Honestly, except for the elders, humans would still pose a serious threat to higher vampires. If humans started hunting HV in earnest, they could be successful due just to the numbers. Decapitate, throw in a pit with all the others, and burn every week. Or just put a castle worth of stone atop them. They can regenerate all day, but it won't matter. At that point, the immortality would be a curse.

So it makes me wonder what the vampires fed on back in their own world? It clearly wasn’t humans or anything like us as they have no idea how we work, but the elder has a human shape which I don’t think he is doing to look more like us considering how much he hates our irritation.

I think this was a mistake on CDPRs part they should have made him look less human.

I ultimately let Detlaff walk away after killing Syanna because it's just one human life against an ancient being that's been alive since even before it got here post conjunction.

Did she have a shitty life? Yes, but nobody forced her to manipulate Detlaff into doing her dirty work, possibly souring one of the few High Vampires that didn't go out if their way to make human lives shit.

Detlaff killed, sure, but as Regis said, trying to force human morals and perceptions onto something that alien was flawed to begin with.

Also Anna was just as delusional as the rest of Toussaint, the way she handled Geralt trying to explain the complexities of the issue at hand and expecting him to just bend over like her Knights and do his job.

say it once and say it many times. why could Regis not imprison detlauf when he was weakened? you have an anti vampire cage in the dungeon below and the fampires did it once before with the one psycho vampire.

I'd really love to see a future Witcher game in which, in an expansion, we see the portal between worlds open up to the homeworld of the vampiric species. It would be a great plot if we were forced into the portal and forced into a playthrough of stealth until we get back. It would be quite exhilarating.

You can feel sorry for the Higher Vampires, but you cannot think you didn't impose on them. In the best case, Geralt survived, but that isn't enough. I explored this path out of curiosity but it isn't worth.

'Those Unseen' only provide useless unique loot (Strange coins = 1g each) and an ugly armor. Just use Witcher gear and save Syanna.

You get bosses and respect Regis and don't exile him. He's a good friend.

I know I'm coming in way late with this but one potential way to explain the inconsistancies with higher vampires is looking at who is using the word. Maybe to a witcher or human a higher vampire is just one that can blend in with humans, but maybe to vampires higher vampires are the more powerful immortal class of vampire

I don’t think it’s hard to get rid of a higher vampire people are just not creative enough! After killing the thing dump the body in the towns windmills grind wheel and grind the body to paste! After scoop up the remnants and pour them in come concrete and make a block! The said block to the nearest port town and pay a random ship captain to just dump this worthless block of concrete in the ocean! Regenerate that!!

The fact that Geralt can fight and defeat higher vampires says a lot about his level of skill. Witchers are mutants but they aren't really portrayed as being superhuman to an extreme degree like the higher vampires are.

I love how alien the higher vampires are instead of just being magically enhanced humans with sadistic tendencies and a fear of the sun.
They do not have or understand emotion, empathy, pain.
Humans are like bugs to them,
There are a lot of them and they feel like they have every right to use them for their own means.

I wish the Unseen Elder questline didn't require Geralt to make one of the most out of character choices in arguably the whole series in order to happen because for real, it's so interesting
