420 knots... I see what you did there movie.

The narrative structure is so classic here: hero completes first major task, overcomes the non-believers, training for major boss is finished, and all focus comes in-line for third act. It must've been amazing to be in edit bay as this came together. That one bit of dialog at climax, the "Holy s**t!" part, how much you wanna bet that line spent weeks or even months before approval. Somebody probably put their job on the line over that bit.

Casting was just spot on and all the actors portraying Naval aviators just nailed it. Mannerisms, lingo, swagger, etc. one of my fave scenes has no F-18s in it - rooster walking to his jet on the flight deck and hangman stopping him to say “give em hell”- just a pro move and so emotional

Totally unbelievable, but so totally cool.

Perfect absolutely perfect. Just everything about this scene from the subtle music added near the end to the epic camera work this scene was perfect. The whole movie was bloody great... Please please please can we make more movies like this.

I guess in the Movie Maverick was more like sea stories that start out : hey this is a no shitter. they saw first hand just how good Pete Mitchel is .

I don't care what anyone says, THIS MOVIE was the best picture and deserved the Oscar. Not that POS movie that it was given to.

For someone new to seeing this, I recommend seeing the movie. The build up to this makes it so much better and desperate. Also, the following reaction in Jon Hamm's office. So many good moments.
