The Curse of Chief Leatherlips

Chief Leatherlips, a Wyandot leader known for his wisdom..His people were being forced to leave their ancestral lands, while American settlers were encroaching further into Native territory. Leatherlips advocated for peace, believing coexistence was the only way forward. But not everyone agreed. Some saw Leatherlips as a traitor, a collaborator with the enemy. Accused of witchcraft and siding with the Americans, Leatherlips was sentenced to death. On June 1st 1810, he was executed near what is now Dublin, Ohio. According to the legend his last words were a curse that brings rain every year and happens to fall on what is now memorial day.
