Is there a play through of FTL on your channel?

well, this game is now available on steam but let me warn you...the starting ship is slightly different and you only start with 50 metals. so if you lose anything to fire or astro damage, you're screwed. also, it seems the astros hit more often and generate more heat from the mining laser (regardless of it being a metal or just plain rock). currently, the game is nearly impossible to play and has no bearing on skill, just pure luck. until it's balanced, I wouldn't recommend it. if it played as it showed in this video it would be a fun game...but alas....

It's not true that combat is pointless. For one, if you destroy them completely, their cargo will disperse into space and you can then mine it for yourself.

How do u make half hull blocks ?

So how did you get them to put out the fires? I've started the game four times now, and every time I start, fires start, and my ship blows up. Everyone sits around being "idle", and heat is at zero. Sometimes they head to fires and status is "fighting fire", but they never seem to actually put it out, no matter what... Any tips?

There's a big point for combat in the game: if you destroy the ship all their resources fly out and you can mine it. Also, there's a chance of getting one of their crew members as yours. In late game it's quite important.

i bought this game ive watched just about every lets play and even copy what they do and i still cant successfully start a colony and im not doing anything different this game just hates me >:(

It's a shame this game has changed so much since this video was released. I was hoping to learn something that I wasn't doing to make it less frustrating. But asteroid belts no longer contain raw materials, it's totally RNG now from breaking asteroids, you also start with way less beginning resources and a smaller storage.

Destroying ships gives you lots of stuff. When they blow up, they spawn metal, water, silicon, and gold chunks.

The art style and game play seems similar if a bit less refined.
