ОтветитьBack in late 2001, or early 2002, I went to a Def Jux show in Providence, RI. Among the artists who performed were Lif, Hangar 18 (Former members of The Atoms Family), Aesop Rock, and El-P. I've attended literally hundreds of shows, and with that said, this particular set of performances is still to this day, one of my all-time favorites. To add metaphorical icing to the cake, I met and spoke for almost a half hour, to El-P outside after the show concluded. He was such a down to earth, forthcoming individual. I remember discussing with him, the equipment he used to produce the instrumentals on Company Flow's Funcrusher Plus (One of my top 10 favorite hiphop albums of all time) and Little Johnny From the Hospital. As a producer, and lyricist myself, I happened to have a burned copy of some of my work, which I gave to El-P. There wasn't any contact info on it whatsoever. I just gave it to him freely, without any hidden agenda. I just felt it was potentially something he might enjoy, and left it at that. Because of that, he said he respected that I wasn't trying to sell myself (unlike so many other artists have done with him in the past) and as a result, he said he was going to listen to it as soon as he got on the tour bus. I hope he did. I also got to meet Mr. Lif earlier in the evening. After he performed his set, he decided to chill near his merchandise table, so I jumped at the opportunity to introduce myself to him, and tell him how much of a fan I was. I actually purchased the Sleepyheads album from him that night, upon which he proceeded to sign his autograph on the cover, along with a short message thanking me for my support. Lif too was a great guy, who was both very approachable and appreciative of his fans. Hanging out alongside him, was his girlfriend at the time; who I found out just recently graduated from Central CT University, which just so happened to be my Alma mater as well. What a crazy coincidence. Lol! Such an awesome show, chock-full of great memories. Seeing El-P go on to achieve popularity and success with RTJ always makes me smile. Nobody in the business deserves it more. To say he paid his dues is arguably the understatement of the century!
👍😁👍
Best rapper alive! Handsdown!
