I think these Vintage Hot Rod basses are equipped with Fender Hi-Mass bridges, something similar to the Badass bridges. Fender Dimension basses have these Hi-Mass bridges as well from the ads I have seen. This Jazz Bass sounds great in Russell's hands!

is anyone else getting tired of watching bass demos where the person playing the bass is either playing generic funk or smooth jazz, especially slapped? I've seen so much of it over the years that it's getting annoying. it's boring--crazy, stupid boring.

You all can naysay this demo all you want about the playing, but I dig the fuck out this guy. If you think these basslines are generic or plain, then you ain't got a clue what playing bass is about. Plus, the Jazz Bass is sexy as hell.

Good demo. Several styles played to give an idea of what this bass sounds like. A demo that is played only in one style gives a very limited idea of the bass's tones. The only thing lacking was a clear indication of how much of either the bridge or neck pup was in use.

Fender needs to do more like THIS - tweaking models the "reverse" way compared to the metric ton of P/J Basses that have been on the "Precision" Body as opposed to the reverse. I like the P/J Tone, but am mainly a Jazz Bass player and would want my P/J to have a J-sized Neck and Jazz Body. as it's ergonomically more comfortable for me when playing. The option for a Maple/Black Blocks fretboard would have been nice, but we all know Fender only gives Color Options to guitars.

Also, give "Conceptually New" as well as "Just-Plain-New" compared to the rest of your Basses more than 18 months to gain a following before tossing away all the R&D, tooling, advertising and such... yeah, I'm looking at you "Fender American Deluxe Dimension Bass". By the time all the various price-range versions such as the American Standard, MIM and Squier were out, it seemed that the whole line-up had all of 6-months out together reinforcing all their fellow "Dimensions" before the axe fell. And again with the whole "Color Options" thing: I was ready to drop over $1600 on a 5-string in "Cayenne Red" with a Maple Fretboard just like Yolanda Charles' in your promo video for it on here... until I found out you only gave Bassists droping that amount of ca$h... 4 color choices. As well as "Locking" them to the Fretboard choices, so that "Cayenne Red" was only available with a Rosewood 'board. I even had my *Local High-End Dealer" call to see if it were possible to, you know, JUST PICK A NECK FROM THE "OTHER PILE". But even your answer to him was "nope", which stupefied Him more than a little and lost yourself a Sale, as well as a Customer likely forever.

I want to like you, Fender, but when making such boneheaded decisions such as the ones above, can you blame me for not even thinking for a split-second when "Dr. Better-Half" asked me what kind of "Custom Bass" I'd like for my 40th Birthday in December, and I replied "Mike Lull". Specifically, their "PJ5-24" which is their downsized, "Modern 5" body, Pickguard & Plate, and pretty much as many options as I could shake a stick it. And shaking it, we're talking Alder Body in "Candy Apple Orange" with a Matching Headstock, Maple Neck and a Birdseye Maple Fretboard w/ No Inlays, Hipshot HB6Y "Y-Key" Ultralite Tuners, A-Bridge and rest of the hardware in Black. And the main "WOW!" Option: a humcancelling J5 in the Bridge, a humcancelling J5 in the Neck Pickguard, and a humcancelling P5 in ITS Pickguard. So we're really talking about a P/PJ/JJ, or by the model designation "PJ/JJ5-24". And I do realize we're talking majorly different prices here, but Mike Lull NEVER gave me a "No" right off the bat with an idea, and is doing some majorly cool ideas that go well beyond "swapping a Maple fretboard for a Rosewood".

When will fender make a review of a guy playing bass with a pick?

The tome sounds like straight rodger waters. I totally like the look of the 60s jazz bass better but the sound is just there.
