How to overclock the i7 4790k & 2400MHz Memory

Sorry, this is very bad video about overclocking. You are basically forcing the cpu to stay at full clocks and max voltage all day long...It is pointless overclocking like this unless you want to break some world record, which you wont do anyway.... It is much better if you overclock letting the board do it automatically, keeping the variable clocks and voltage and then add a negative offset. That way you can fine tunning the voltage using such offset. Cpu will change its clock states and voltages this way, which means the computer will be super fresh when in light use and not a energy wasting heat producing machine...just type down the voltges for the clocks you have now, select auto for everything and simply add a negative offset until the auto voltages match what you had.. and there you go, a totally overclocked machine that will iddle a x8 and 0.7 volts....

Its only for H87 and z97 Mobo or I can be on the B85M Chipsets?

i have a question, can i overclock my 4790k using my G1 sniper B5 motherboard?

I know its fairly late in the game.. For me to be askin you this , Buuuut what made you think it was simply the core voltage causing your overclock to not stick... Its doubtrful that it was my 4790k does 5ghz (actually 5060mhz) with about 1.365V - So 4.8ghz would run fine w. 1.275 - And therefor 4.7 would run fine with 1.225v ... Jus sayin the core volts are NOT all it takes at all . You couldve adjusted system agent .05 and digital IO .075 higher than analog (and analog just .025 higher than SA)

I use Intel Extreme Tuning Utility. You don't have to go into BIOS that way.

Great guide, but once we setup this overclock the processor keeps at 4.7ghz all the time, is there a way a setting to let it drop cores and voltages down at idle/low usage?

You can OC in windows with intel Xtreme tuning engine

Mine is to unstable it dies if i go to 4600mhz and 2.280 volts its stable att 4300mhz tho

I managed to achieve 4.7ghz @1.4v on my 4770k running at a stable 70c. Also got my 16gb Corsair DDR3 2133mhz kit running at 2600mhz @5.555v and its super stable. Might try reducing the volts on my CPU by just a tad so I can get a bit more life out of it.

I have a problem with the i7 4790k after using easytune on G1 z97 sniper gigabyte motherboard my temperatures went unstable and now trying not to kill it I underclocked it to 3.9 ghz. Any solutions. After I set the defaults from the bios which is 4.4 ghz I start the computer then it immediately goes to 90 degrees then drops down to idle. And same going in cinebench the temperatures jump to 100 degrees immediately. I have artic esports duo for cooler.

I have the i7-4790k and z97 gaming 5
The system freezes when igpu driver is installed (windows update/MSI website/intel DSA Tool) system works fine with Microsoft basic display adapter

But won’t pass audio via HDMI
Won’t let me change resolution to 1440p or 4k
No option for custom aspect ratio to adjust the top,bottom,left and right if the screen

Does anyone know how to fix it

Maybe disabling eist, turbo, & c-states would help? Glad I got mine stable at 4.7Ghz @1.276v

at the end of your video why didnt u give ur final bios settings...... i only hear 4.7 what is the voltage?

I have stable 4.6GHz on my ASUS Z97 with 1.25v. Temp ok.

I overclocked to 4,7 GHz and on 100% stress test I have only about 65 C

Ratio is Auto for me and I got 4.4ghz once I put 46 like you'vegot and adjust voltages my pc starts but game crashes straight away and once i restart i got whea uncorrectable error. I put voltage to 1.30 and still keeps giving error until i put everything like it was, it simply doesnt want to overclock

Did stresstest on 4.4 ghz same cpu and got temperature around 100 and my computer just crashed facepalm

I still use my 4770K on rtx 3060 work everyway..

I try yo oc it but too many option in bios i can find anything that can make my oc stable .

I live in a very hot climate so could only mildly overclock and go to 4.6ghz and 1.175v with the cooling I have, it's clipping around the 80 degrees mark which is fine. Don't want it hotter.
It's been running perfectly stable for around 1 week now 😊

What does the i7 4790k achieve with oc in Cinebench r15 single core test? That would interest me but an asus z97 with Xeon E3 1230 v3 as a second pc. Is it worth swapping the CPU? Can you get the i7 4790k in Cinebench r15 single core to 200cb?

Great tutorial. I decided to simply use the OC Genie button which overclocks both CPU and DRAM automatically with optimized voltages and timings. The CPU frequency is 4.4Ghz with this button feature. The motherboard was Z87 MPOWER MAX (same CPU).

I have 4,6 with 1.26 but 4.7 with over 1.3 why ?

if they were bought at 1600mhz, will XMP not have other options then? only way to get the vengeance cl10 from 1600 to 2400 is manual OC ?

Back in 2015 when I got a 4790K and started playing around with overclocks, I learnt to keep the CPU temperature under 85C. The moment it goes over 85C performance crashes, regardless of the clock speed. Best I could get was 4.7GHz at 1.3v

i see ur update version is 10.7 mine is 2.7 and i have the z97 g45 but both our motherboards had the last update in 2016, where did u find that update to 10.7?

thanks to your video now i see that my motherboard actually doesn't support 3 or 4 sticks of ram, as my speed has been downgraded to 1333 instead of 1600

4.7 @ 1.275v good chip

I've managed to get 2 settings, 1 for air cooled 1 for water-cooled.
Air cooled i7 4790k
Set at 1.115v core voltage giving 4.4ghz base 4.8ghz boost, 74c under load
Water-cooled i7 4790k
Set at 1.17v core voltage giving 4.6ghz base 5.27ghz boost 76c under load
Both completely stable

Not worth it, it will still run like crap, like the rest of your outdated system.

Stunning guide, thank you so much ! I was able to get my 4790k at a stable 4.7Ghz but the poor thing seems to be incapable of pushing 4.8Ghz.

Mine ran @ 5000 MHz @ 1.42V ... stable for years ... no sign of degrading ... had to upgrade afterwards. ;)
