Great info .Will love this shawl conversion so much !!!!
ОтветитьYay for the wrap !!! ❤😊
ОтветитьHi Nicole, I love ypur concept! Im planning to make the night shift into a wrap line you did. May I ask, what did you use for the borders? Did you do icord? Thanks. Keep these great videos coming! Sherrybird
ОтветитьYou opened up cowl knitting for me! Never could stand them around my neck even though the patterns are breathtakingly beautiful. But for a wrap, yes! Thank you!
ОтветитьThis is really brilliant and will definitely change how I look at my queue because I do love knitting big shawls but wearing them is so fiddly and getting things to sit just so. Thank-you for introducing me to this concept. I haven't yet watched the series but I am an excruciating detail type of person so it's going to happen. Really quickly, how do you find the yarn use tends to differ by changing the configuration of shawl sections?
ОтветитьSo you made them into ponchos? I love ponchos cause they are so easy to wear. Now I can just turn the gorgeous shawls into poncho style.
ОтветитьClever girl. 🐑 ty
ОтветитьWhat a thoroughly absorbing, interesting and inspiring video. Thank you so much!
ОтветитьThis is such a brilliant idea! I can't wait to get all of my shawl out and see what I can with them. Do you sometimes use 2 shawls together?
ОтветитьI have a question for you. After watching this video I have been looking at a couple of shawls and imagining them as wear overs. They seem quite drapey though. Do you think that if doing what you suggest if they should be knit at a tighter gauge?
ОтветитьTi seguo dall' Italia e ti voglio dire che ti ADORO 💖, con questa idea mi hai dato una svolta😊👍👍👍👍
ОтветитьI'm short with narrow shoulders so this will be perfect for me. Are you knitting this on circular needles as straight needles wouldn't be long enough
ОтветитьThank you, I just finished the nightshift and thought that the shape was’nt showing of the beautiful colours and pattern, and it feels weird around my neck. Your wrap version is so much better. I❤ it.
ОтветитьThis is great! I am a small person and most wraps or shawls make me look like I'm drowning in yarn. They often hang almost to my knees. I ordered yarn this year thinking that I might try Steven West's shawl knit-along but I watched it first to see if it would work for me. Nope! Way too big. I think all of his are. I wasn't even that keen on the pattern. However, that one you are wearing at the beginning and end of your video just might work for the yarn I got and for converting it into something I could wear. It looks like a fun knit so, once I've finished a couple of other projects, I will give it a try. I'm thinking I will buy one of the cheap fleece blankets and cut it up to get an idea of the size I might want. Thanks for a fun video and I'm definitely subscribing.
ОтветитьUnfortunately, I don't knit by I am a prolific crocheter. I also have had issues with keeping shawls on my shoulders and either resorted to pins (which don't always work with the drape factor) or frogging and reusing the yarn for another (unsatisfying) project. This concept is amazing and I will be using it soon. I'm not a big poncho fan but this is DEFINITELY a wonderful style option. Thanks for sharing your brain with all of us (even your crochet-cousins)!!
ОтветитьBeautiful and great idea!
It reminds me a bit of a medieval chaperon-without-cap...
Hmmmm.....🤔I am not a knitter...crocheter....but, I bet this would work for crochet pieces as well. Your pieces are gobsmackingly beautiful 😍 I used to wear shawls all the time back in the 60's...flower power generation and all that 🏵🌺🌼... would be fabulous if they came back into fashion big time. Thank you for a nice "tutorial" and the great idea...will definitely alter the way I do shawls. 🤗
ОтветитьGreat job! Thanks for your very informative video. I've knit tons of shawls and find that the ones I wear the most are the ones I've been able to stitch together somehow. And thank you for posting some of the names of the shawls and their designers but there were one or two that I wondered about that didn't specify who made them. Do you have a list of them that you could post as well?
ОтветитьTerrific info! Now I feel like revisiting my foray into shawls. I’ve always thought there were so many beautiful patterns but never made one because they seem so finicky to wear
ОтветитьReally cute.
ОтветитьI’ve watched the previous video but I already went from knitting all shapes to selecting rectangles or crescents because when I give them away the recipients don’t seem to know how to wear them so it’s easier to explain the rectangles or crescents. I have previous to your video done your technique here by another pattern, can’t remember what or who. I’m currently knitting an elongated triangle but am thinking of changing it up to make it into a piece that is sewn together.
ОтветитьThis is a wonderful idea! I'm thinking of replacing the sewing part with buttons. When you have menopause hot flashes, this thing has to come out quickly... 🥵 Also, you can still wear it as the first intended purpose of the design.
ОтветитьSo helpful ❤
ОтветитьI have been wanting to try this, but was intimidated by the 2 tutorials. This overview gives me confidence to transform a shawl into a wrap over! I have 2 rectangular patterns in mind, and look forward to making them so much more wearable. Much appreciated!
ОтветитьGreat idea! Also have a look at the Rickroll wrap by Mary Anarella….
ОтветитьFabulous topic! I am a fairly new knitter. I love the shawls, but cannot wear them well either. So, I had decided not to make anymoreI will definitely consider this method. .
ОтветитьYessss totally agree, It shows the beauty of the peace 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
ОтветитьThank You so much!!! I'm in a mechanical wheel chair and I have had several mishaps with long flowing garments. They get under the wheel and it rolls over them until the item is on the floor. I hate too much stuff around my neck and I need just a little something to help hide my sitting tummy. This idea is perfect for me!! Thanks again
ОтветитьThis is so fantastic! I love knitting shawls & I can't wait to try this. Thank you, thank you.😀
ОтветитьGreat idea! I'm going to forward this to a few friends who love to knit shawls but never wear them. So thank you for sharing! Why are you foggy? I thought it was my glasses. Also, sliced bread gave us sandwiches. You can't make a sandwich with broken bread!
ОтветитьOh Knicole you are on to something here!!! 🤩
ОтветитьI just frogged four shawls made over several years and will be knitting garments with the yarn. I’ve become more skilled since I first started knitting.
ОтветитьI’m tempted to try this but just putting buttonholes in the final couple of inches of the short side, and putting buttons on the main piece to fasten it to.
Love this video!
I love this! One of the reasons I love knitting is that I get to do geometry in 3D. I think I'm going to make the Westknits Stripeometry into a rectangular wrap
ОтветитьThis is a great video! I am a poncho gal and now I have some ideas about converting my existing shawls into a wrap and re-imagining other shawl patterns as wraps! You are very creative and kind to share your knowledge with us.
ОтветитьI haven’t converted any shawls into wrap overs …yet!!! But I did turn a too short rectangle shawl into something wearable. Thanks for the inspiration 🧶
ОтветитьWow they look so lovely, you get to really see the patterns, colours and texture. So very exciting.
ОтветитьI made Nightshift for a friend from a kit and love love love it. I started one for myself using a ton of my stash yarn, using needles that were too small making it too dense.
Resolving to frog it was dead simple once I saw I could convert it to a wrap. And I'll pay better attention to the drapiness of the yarn this time.
You are absolutely correct about shawl non-wearability if I want to show off the design - unless I'm sitting still - which for me is unrealistic. I don't knit them anymore because I don't wear them. This is tragic because I have so many beautiful shawl patterns. But you got me thinking ... besides converting to rectangles, some shawls might convert better to a (seamless?) conical shape ... I am inspired! ✨
ОтветитьI think this is a great idea! It reminds me of the beautiful Zulia Poncho from Tonia Lyons (Les Laines Biscottes). Have you been able to estimate the difference of yardage required when you made your shawl conversion experiments?
ОтветитьI love your thought process. I love shawls as show off pieces. Many younger knitters like to wear shawls bibb style...nor me. I did an interesting mosaic asymmetrical shawls and it doesn't wear well. Can't wait to see how I sew it together!
ОтветитьI love this idea. (I watched the first one also.) I never knit shawls for the very reason that they're so awkward. I enjoy all your videos. Glad I found you.
ОтветитьYep, my mind is blown! I’m new to your channel and now I’m sold! I do have one question, that is about the quantity of yarn. Are the amounts specified in the original triangular shawl pattern enough for the converted shape? Thanks so much for sharing this!
ОтветитьI actually turned my Geogradient 2023 mkal by Stephen West into a wrap thanks to your previous videos and it is one of my most worn accessories ❤ That one wasn't a rectangle but I modified it to be a parellogram and figured a way to sew it in a somewhat wrap shape and it works 😅
ОтветитьGreat idea 😊❤
ОтветитьKind of a loose caplet poncho concept 😊
ОтветитьThe wraps put me in mind of the ponchos I made in the 70’s (but without the poncho points)
For me personally, I like the triangle and half circle shawls. I like being able to get in and out of it quickly without messing my hair.
However, on a cool night I can see snuggling up with the wrap all around me.
There’s room for both styles in my wardrobe.
thank you so much❤
ОтветитьGreat shout-out for Wendy in New York. She really is awesome 😊
ОтветитьWith your Natasha shawl, could you apply a knitted rib neckline and bring it in that way? Loved the video, very informative xo
